Unfinished Business: 59th Anniversary of the Holy Land Pilgrimage Dr. King Was to Lead

Dr. King was to lead thousands of Black Americans on a Holy Land Tour in November 1967. The trip was postponed in the aftermath of the Six-Day War, rescheduled for 1968, the year King was assassinated. This November, 500 Black American and African Christian leaders will visit Israel for the 'Unfinished Business Holy Land Tour.' Join this Zoom meeting, Thursday, July 9 @ 1PM Eastern US to discuss.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., along with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, was planning the first-ever mass Holy Land pilgrimage of hundreds, possibly thousands of Black Americans. The trip was scheduled for November 1967. This is all revealed in private letters between Dr. King and Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol as well as then-former Israeli Prime Minister David Ben Gurion. Those letters were exchanged between January and May of 1967. However, in June 1967, Israel fought its third battle for its existence since independence in 1948 (the Six-Day War), defeating multiple Arab armies and reclaiming the Holy City of Jerusalem for the first time in nearly 2,000 years. With the intense controversy after the Six-Day War, Dr. King, who continued to support Israel and work towards peace, chose to postpone the Holy Land pilgrimage until 1968. He was assassinated on April 4th of that year.
For Black American supporters of Israel, Dr. King’s Holy Land tour represents unfinished business.
In November 2026 – what would have been the 59th anniversary of Dr. King’s journey -- the Black Christian Council on Israel Relations will lead 500 Black American and African pastors and Christian leaders to the Holy Land. IBSI will lead the discussion and Q & A about this trip, Tuesday, June 30 @ 8PM Eastern.
Jesus Spoke of Africa: Why The Queen of Sheba Visited King Solomon in Jerusalem
In Matthew 12.42, Jesus speaks of the Queen of Sheba (Makeda) and her visit to Jerusalem more than 1,000 years after the event. Jesus points to the sojourn from Ethiopia to Israel as a prophetic, messianic sign. This means that the visit recorded in the Hebrew scriptures (1 Kings 10, 2 Chronicles 9) has significance for today, especially for Christians. In the September installment of IBSI Pastors Presents, we will discuss what Jesus said about Makeda and what that means for Africa, the African diaspora, and the worldwide church. Pastor Dumisani will lead this virtual event from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Woman and the Dragon: Unpacking Revelation 12 & The Spiritual Warfare in Standing With Israel

In the book of Revelation, chapter 12, the Apostle John sees a vision of a woman bearing a child and a dragon poised to destroy both the child and its mother. The woman represents Israel, the child is the Messiah, and the dragon is Satan. The vision later includes the woman's "other offspring" who name the name of Jesus. John was seeing the past, present, and future in one vision, and that vision is the foundation for the Christian understanding of spiritual warfare. IBSI Pastors Presents for August will be a discussion on the biblical explanation of spiritual warfare, and what church leaders should know as antisemitism and hatred for the church rise in America and the Western world.

The War Against Israel: What Black/African Pastors Must Know
On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists invaded Israel from Gaza, killing or abducting some 1300 Israelis and foreign nationals. As this was taking place, Islamic extremist violence against Christians in Africa and the Middle East was also increasing. The media war surrounding these events has been filled with propaganda and false narratives, and at the center of that war has been the Black and African communities. Since the 1960s, anti-Israel messaging has been uniquely directed at Black leaders. However, the world needing to Black leaders to speak clarity and truth like never before. It is part of Africa's prophetic call to Zion (Psalm 68.31).

On October 7, 2023, the ongoing war against the state of Israel escalated as Hamas terrorists killed or abducted some 1,300 Israelis as well as foreign nationals.
